$1,500 Classic II Survivor (Week 6 Start)

Jan 15: And then there were two! CelticRules vs. Howboutthemcowboys to decide last man standing... although it would seem a good chance they end up splitting in the end. Both used the Patriots to get here. We lost kidnarsky who picked the Falcons to beat the Eagles but couldn't close the deal. Great run kid! Our final two can't pick either team on the AFC side so I suspect they will pick the ... Vikings? Eagles? Bit of a toss-up game so we will find out Sunday.

Jan 8: Before the start of the playoffs, our final three contestants agreed to split $1,200 of the prize pool $400 each and play for the final $300. All of them have already been paid to enjoy the reward of a stellar regular season, and play on for the smaller prize and trophy. Surprise, surprise, the Wild-Card decided nothing as all of them went with the Jags over the Bills. Lets see if they come through with some different picks this week.

Jan 1: Four different picks and three of the four came through. We lost Snicks1 on the Seahawks. Sorry man, not a good way to end the year. The Lions, Steelers and Patriots each won to send CelticRules, Howboutthemcowboys and kidnarsky to the final three. On to the playoffs to decide this one!

Dec 28: We lost portugal07 on the Jaguars loss to the 49ers. CelticRules just barely squeaks by with the Panthers. Howboutthemcowboys, kidnarsky and Snicks1 all advance on the Patriots, Ravens, Ravens, respectfully. Now there are four alive. Week 17 here we come. This pool will extend into the playoffs if necessary, and you can use a team in the playoffs that was picked previously, but again each team can only be used once during the playoffs. Lets get through unpredictable Week 17 first!

Dec 18: CelticRules was the only entry who had the Saints available and their massive 16 point spread line facing the Jets. Typical of this NFL season, the Jets hung around with the Saints for a while in that game. Two Ravens picks and two Vikings picks were easy wins and therefore all five advance to Week 16.

Dec 12: We lost more than half our entries! Six get knocked out, a pair on the Bengals and - big surprise - four last night with the Patriots losing to the Dolphins. Even playing terrible the Pats still had chances to get back into it. Sign of a good team, just not good enough Monday. Bengals - pathetic effort against the Bears. We could have easily lost two more on the Steelers as the Ravens were up 11 in the 4th quarter. Chargers and Packers were the other correct picks. Five alive going into Week 15. Good luck!

Dec 6: Once CelticRules got the early pick right taking the Patriots, he must have been cheering hard for a Browns upset over the Chargers. It wasn't to be. Now after two perfect weeks in a row it seems inevitable the axe is going to fall soon. This week? We'll see.

Nov 27: No one picked the Chiefs! With a handful of double digit favourites available thankfully everyone missed that one big upset. No casualties through Sunday. midnightwriter still isn't in the clear taking the Ravens Monday night over the Texans, so while he should be fine, we will see. A QB battle for the ages, Joe Flacco vs. Tom Savage. Pretty sure last night's Walking Dead on the PVR is going to get priority over that one.

Nov 21: Tough week! We lost 9 of 20 all on the Chiefs disaster of a performance - off a bye week I might add - to the New York Giants. They were favoured by 10 and didn't even score 10 points! That was ugly. A variety of other choices mostly got through without a lot of resistance, except maybe the Saints! That one was pretty close, right Saints-backers? Good luck to our final eleven!

Nov 14: Perfect week! We held steady at 20 entries or 25% of our original entries still alive after Week 10 as we didn't have a single casualty. The Lions and Steelers each looked sketchy for a while but pulled through in the end. The Rams, Panthers and Patriots all coasted to victory.

Nov 7: Only 20 left in a pool that started with 80 four weeks ago. A pair of upsets thinned the field. Anyone who picked Houston, I'm sure you were thinking once Deshaun Watson got hurt, "ah, they can still beat the Colts." Nope. As for the Seahawks, the kicker missed three field goals in the first half so the writing was on the wall early. Then they provided a potential miracle comeback before totally blowing it at the end. Frustrating, which is exactly the nature of NFL survivor pools.

Oct 31: Hey, does everyone like the changes I've been making to the look of the website lately? Continually trying to get it more mobile friendly, and for our survivor pools I thought the shading of out entries added a nice touch to the results table. Oh and the quick alive versus out stats above the top-right corner of the table. Let me know what you think. This seemed like a good week to ask since no one got knocked out. It was a big week for the favourites, but don't get cocky heading into Week 9!

Oct 24: It was a much better Week 7 than the way this pool started in Week 6. We still had a few casualties thanks to the Chiefs blowing the game against the Raiders last Thursday. Cacciatorini went with his gut and it cost him three entries, and we also lost bz1518 on the Panthers who lost thanks in large part to a pair of defensive touchdowns by the Bears. Bears QB Mitch Trubisky threw 4 for 7 passes for 107 yards. Yes, really. Everyone else kept alive and well thanks to a variety of picks, mostly Dallas, and head into Week 8.

Oct 16: That was fast! We start a brand new survivor pool on a week with multiple double digit favourites on the board to select from, and multiple double digit favorites go and [ insert appropriate expletive filled metaphor here ]. I'm out, and I didn't even pick the Falcons or Broncos. Baltimore Ravens were my team... which in retrospect wasn't the best idea since the Bears did play pretty well last week against the Vikings.

Regardless, it was a mess out there on Sunday. Hope no one was gripping their phone too tightly checking the scores. We didn't sell out at 90 entries. We hit 80, but from that only 36 are alive after Week 6 (a.k.a. week one). Lets see what next week brings!

Oct 10: Survivor I seems to be decaying at the rate of a half-life - or whatever the proper terminology is, I was never much of a science guy. It lost 18 of 36 in Week 5, which should mean lots are motivated looking for redemption in this pool. Grab your spot(s), don't delay!

Oct 3: Update - we lost another 33 in Classic I Survivor in Week 4, or 84 of 120 total for an even 70% out, 30% still alive. Maybe the NFL will get a tad more predictable starting Week 6?

Not even October yet and we've lost 51 entries from our Classic I Survivor! That is 42.5%! Through 3 weeks! Stupidly unpredictable NFL. Ah, but that is what keeps us tuning in, doesn't it? Well that and the protests these days, I suppose.

Anyway, from a pure lets keep football about sports and not politics perspective, and lets keep things interesting with a little money on the line, it is time to open Classic II Survivor! That is what this is, our mid-season football pool.

This one starts Week 6. Same rules as Classic I - one strike and you are out. Last man standing wins the whole kit and caboodle, a $1,500 grand prize!
