Last year we had fun with
Hockey Survivor I and
II. Now it is time to bring back Hockey Survivor for the 2010-11 NHL season!
Each week of the pool pick one team to win or OTL (overtime loss) its weekend game. If they do that,
then you advance to pick another team for the next week. If they lose in regulation, you could get
knocked out of the pool.
New this year -
Double Elimination. Each entry has two lives to stay in the pool before
getting eliminated for incorrect picks.
Note only Saturday or Sunday
games are available to pick from, and furthermore, if a team is scheduled to play both days, then only
the Saturday game is available. We'll keep going through the regular season as long as necessary
to determine the winner.
You have two main options for your pool pleasure:
| Create Your Own Pool Group |
|
Join the MOP $20 Group |
1. Join the overall pool (free)
2. Create a pool group (free)
3. Invite your friends (no limit) |
~ OR ~ |
1. Join MOP group, $20 per entry
2. Submit payment online
3. Winner takes all |
If you want to create your own group, first join the overall pool, and then you can create your own
pool group. Once your pool group is created, invite your friends to play, so you can compete against
people you know.
Small group? Large group? No problem, there is no limit, and there is no cost for this service.
If you looking for a $20 entry fee pool like you're used to finding at MyOfficePool.ca, join
the MOP $20 group.
The deadline to enter is Saturday November 6th at 7:00pm Eastern. You can
change your pick as many times as you like up to the deadline.
Deadline PassedWe're sorry, but this pool has already started and we cannot accept any more entries at this time.
Rules Summary
Starting the first week of the pool, you have to pick one team that will win or OTL (overtime loss) its game.
If the team you picked wins the game or loses in overtime, then you survive to the next week to pick another
team. If the team you picked loses in regulation, then you lose the first of your two lives to stay alive in the pool.
In a subsequent week, if you pick another team that loses in regulation, then you lose the second of your two lives, and you are eliminated from the pool.
If necessary, the pool will run to the end of the NHL regular season.
You cannot pick the same team twice during the pool.
The last person in the pool still alive after all others have been eliminated, our Survivor,
is the winner.
The pool will continue as long as there are entries still alive or until the pool's final week,
the final weekend of the NHL regular season, whichever comes first.
Important Points
Weekly Pick DeadlineEach week of the NHL season, the deadline for making your pick
is 7:00pm Eastern on Saturday. This deadline applies to all remaining games for the
week, including Sunday games.
In weeks with games scheduled earlier than 7:00pm Eastern on Saturday, these games can be selected but
picks must be submitted prior to the scheduled start time of those games.
These deadlines will be strictly enforced! There will be no exceptions for picks not being submitted on
time.
No picks for any games can be submitted once the deadline is passed. The system will lock out all
submissions until it is reset after the game and pick results have been updated.
Eligible GamesOnly Saturday and some Sunday games are eligible to pick from for this pool.
If any one team is scheduled to play both Saturday and Sunday in a weekend, then the Sunday game is removed
from the pool. Even if that team's Sunday opponent did not have a game on Saturday, the entire game
is ineligible for the pool. This will result in some teams not being available to choose from some weeks.
Christmas BreakThe pool will take a one week break the week of Christmas, so even though the
NHL is playing, there will be no picks required for the weekend Saturday December 25th and Sunday December 26th, 2010.
Assuming the pool has not declared a winner by that time, then it will continue the next weekend starting Saturday
January 1st, 2011.
All-Star BreakThere will be no picks required for the weekend Saturday January 29th
and Sunday January 30th, 2011. There are no regular season games scheduled as a result of the NHL All-Star game.
Default PickIf no pick is submitted prior to the deadline, then a default pick will be
assigned. The default pick will be the first team sorted alphabetically in ascending order by City
and then Team Name that you have not already selected.
Alternate Pick SubmissionIf you are having difficulty submitting your pick online, then send the
pick by email to
mike@myofficepool.ca. Make sure to clearly state
your username, entry number, week of the contest and pick. The email must be received time
stamped prior to the deadline and from the email account associated with your username. We take no
responsibility for email being delayed past the deadline or not
being delivered. Everyone should use the online system to make their picks and only send an email in the
case of an emergency.
Multiple WinnersIf more than one entry is still alive at the end of the pool, then
the prize is divided equally amongst the winning entries.
Mass Exodus ExceptionIf more than five entries are all eliminated in the same week and these
eliminations would result in the conclusion of the pool, because there are no more alive entries, then these
entries will be considered still alive and play on if there are available weeks remaining in the pool. The team
chosen by each entry that was wrong cannot be picked in the next or future week consistent with the rules as if
the pick was correct.
If five or fewer entries are all eliminated in the same week and these eliminations result in the conclusion
of the pool, then the prize is divided equally amongst these winning entries.
